Bowl projections 2012: Washington headed to Sun Bowl or Vegas Bowl

Husky fans might want to make New Years plans for El Paso or Christmas plans for Las Vegas based on the latest round of bowl projections.

The Washington Huskies have their sights firmly set on the rival Washington State Cougars for the Apple Cup this Friday but have already become bowl eligible. So where will they end up in the postseason? That depends on who you ask.

CBS Sports' Jerry Palm is projecting the Huskies will land in the Sun Bowl against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Huskies have been to the Sun Bowl four times, most recently a 2002 loss by the score of 34-24 to the Purdue Boilermakers. Their lone win in the game came in 1979 with a 14-7 victory over the Texas Longhorns. Georgia Tech has appeared twice in the Sun Bowl, most recently in a 30-27 overtime loss to the Utah Utes last season.

Meanwhile, ESPN is projecting the Huskies to land in the Las Vegas Bowl against the Boise State Broncos. The Huskies have never appeared in the Las Vegas Bowl but the Broncos have appeared in two straight seasons. They beat the Utes 28-3 in 2010 and demolished the Arizona St. Sun Devils 56-24 last year.
