Despite a change at quarterback for the Stanford Cardinal, the visiting Oregon State Beavers find themselves trailing by the score of 14-0 after one quarter of play at Stanford Stadium.
After an impressive showing at Colorado last week, Stanford decided to start freshman quarterback Kevin Hogan for the first time in his young career. Despite his inexperience, Hogan has impressed in his first start, leading the Cardinal offense to two touchdowns in the first quarter against one of the better defensive units in the nation.
Meanwhile, the Beavers were unable to put much of anything together in the first quarter, punting the ball after picking up just a few yards of offense in their first two drives of the game. It wasn't until the last two plays of the first quarter did the Beavers gain a new set of downs.
The Beavers defense will be asked to toughen up in the following quarters, after allowing the Cardinal offense to convert all three of their third downs.
