The No. 10 Oregon State Beavers (4-0) will attempt to stay undefeated when they go on the road to face the BYU Cougars (4-2) on Saturday.
The Beavers will be forced to play without starting quarterback Sean Mannion who is out with a knee injury he suffered last week against Washington State. Instead, the Beavers will turn to junior Cody Vaz who will be making his first collegiate start.
Vaz has appeared in five games in his OSU career, but none since 2010. He's completed 6-of-17 passes in his career for 48 yards. He will face a tough challenge right out of the gate as BYU has one of the nation's top defenses. The Cougars are allowing just 8.8 points per game this season, the third fewest in the country. BYU has allowed just 169.8 passing yards per game, the 12th fewest of any team.
While Vaz and the offense will look to rebound from a lackluster performance last week, the Beaver defense will look for another strong game. Oregon State allowed just six points last week and will face a BYU offense which has struggled recently. BYU has scored six points in two of their last three games and will now turn to previous starting quarterback Riley Nelson.
Nelson started the first four games for BYU before being replaced by Taysom Hill. Hill suffered a season-ending injury last week, so Nelson will re-take the staring job. This will be the 11th meeting between the teams, BYU knocked off the Beavers 38-28 last season.
