The Washington Huskies have raided the Tennessee Volunteers and pilfered two members of their defensive coaching staff as defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox and linebackers coach Peter Sirmon are both leaving to join the Huskies staff, according to multiple sources including ESPN's Chris Low.
After engaging in what was an entertaining but eye-opening 67-56 loss to Baylor in last week's Valero Alamo Bowl, Huskies head coach Steve Sarkisian began an overhaul of his defensive coaching staff by firing defensive coordinator Nick Holt, linebackers coach Mike Cox and safeties coach Jeff Mills. Giving up 777 total yards in a bowl game - the most in school history - was the final straw.
Wilcox has spent the past two seasons in Tennessee after four seasons as the defensive coordinator at Boise State. Sirmon played seven seasons at linebacker for the Tennessee Titans and spent 2009 as a graduate assistant at Oregon before taking the same position under Wilcox at Tennessee. Wilcox and Sirmon both played at Oregon during their college days.
