Per Adam Caplin and Aaron Wilson, Minnesota Vikings veteran free agent linebacker Ben Leber visited the Seahawks on Monday. Caplin notes correctly that the Hawks have been 'hot' on Leber for sometime, and he's been a rumored target for a week or two now.
Leber is a 32 year old tenth-year veteran. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 2002 in the third round, and was a quick impact player, starting 14 games his rookie season. He signed with Minnesota in 2006 and has played there since, starting a large portion of Vikings games for the last five seasons. At 6'3, 244, he projects to provide depth for the Seahawks with the recent departures of OLB Will Herring and MLB Lofa Tatupu. Leroy Hill is the presumptive starter at the weakside linebacker position, but the Hawks may be looking for insurance on a player, Hill, that hasn't played since late 2009 and has had injury problems prior to that.
Leber had 46 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception last season.
It's unclear if the Seahawks will sign Leber, but the visit is noteworthy.
