Shaq Thompson Currently Has Washington Huskies As 'Favorites'

Shaquille Thompson has been pretty coy on his recruitment ever since he originally decommitted from Cal in February. The Grant High superstar athlete does want to take visits to multiple schools, and will be on officials to the Florida Gators, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon Ducks, UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans and Washington Huskies.

What should pique the interest of fans in the Northwest is that Shaq might be currently leaning toward Seattle. Joe Davidson of the Sacramento Bee has more in a profile of Thompson in MaxPreps.

Thompson said if there was an early favorite – and there really isn't at the moment – it would be Washington.

He said he likes the coaches and his best friend, James Sample, is a freshman there. Sample was a prep All-American for Grant last season. Thompson and Sample also ran on state-meet qualifying 400 relay teams together.

Thompson is one of those players who is an instant game-changer, one of those college football players who can come in and turn a middling team into a good one, perhaps even a great one down the road. However, Washington fans should be tentative before getting too excited; Thompson just indicated there were reasons he'd be interested in UW, and he made it clear that no school has a true lead in this race yet.
