Justin Smoak Injury: Young First Baseman Hit In Face, Leaves Game

The Mariners talented, young first baseman left Friday's game after being hit in the face by a batted ball.

The last two months have been rough on the Seattle Mariners and now their rookie first baseman Justin Smoak could have a severe injury.

With the team playing the Boston Red Sox, Jarrod Saltamacchia hit a ball well down the first base line. The ball struck Smoak in the face and the team's trainers immediately came onto the field to attend to their injured star.

Smoak took a bad-hop smash off the bat of Salty on the left side of his face and is leaving the game. He really got crushedless than a minute ago via TweetDeck Favorite Retweet Reply

This is a really tough break for both the Mariners and Justin. For a player who was so excited to re-join his teammates in the lineup, he will likely miss at least a few games with the injury, if not more. Here's hoping for no broken bones and he makes a speedy recovery.
