2011 Tour De France Live Coverage: Tyler Farrar Chases Stage 5 Sprint Points On Wednesday

The 2011 Tour de France keeps on rolling Wednesday as the peloton leaves Carhaix for a 102-mile ride to Cap Fréhel. The stage continues the trend of flat, sprint-based routes in the early-goings of the Tour de France, giving the green jersey contenders ample opportunity to pick up points in both the intermediate sprint and final race to the finish. For Tyler Farrar, Wednesday is another chance to maneuver himself into contention for the green jersey and, perhaps, nab another stage victory.

Farrar is putting together quite the ride already, taking home a first-ever stage win on July 4 and maximizing his points in the green jersey competition during intermediate sprints from the peloton. Farrar is currently fifth in the sprint classification, 14 points behind leader Jose Joaquin Reyes. But of the true sprinters in the field, Farrar has positioned himself well, trailing teammate Thor Hushovd by only two points and leading the rest of the big contenders in the early stages of the 2011 Tour de France. Hushovd and Farrar are working together as teammates this year, with Hushovd currently in the yellow jersey as the overall leader.

Coverage of Stage 5 begins at 4:30 a.m. PDT on Wednesday. As always, Versus will be broadcasting the race live, with replays to follow throughout the day for those who can't quite make it out of bed in the morning. Live commentary of the stage can be found here.
