As often as point guard Sue Bird and small forward Swin Cash have carried the Seattle Storm to victory this season, it should come as no surprise to Seattle fans that both have been announced as 2011 WNBA All-Star starters during tonight's game in San Antonio.
Bird secured the most votes in the Western Conference (25,077) and the second most overall behind Eastern Conference forward Tamika Catchings of the Indiana Fever. Cash came in second among Western Conference forwards behind fellow UConn alum Maya Moore, who was unsurprisingly the third leading vote getter overall.
"It's a big honor," Bird said in a Seattle Storm press release. "Fan voting, it's kind of humbling for me. It's great knowing that fans want to see me in that game; hopefully I can put on a good show for them."
This is Bird's seventh All-Star starter selection and Cash's fourth and second with the Storm, the first in which she won All-Star MVP.
The game will be played in San Antonio on July 23.
