The Oregon State Beavers hit the skids to end the regular season, losing their last five games ahead of the NCAA baseball regionals. Even still, Oregon State earned the right to host a regional in Corvallis and took advantage, cruising through the weekend unscathed to advance to the Super Regionals. The Beavers will face Vanderbilt this coming week after the Commodores, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, put together a perfect weekend of their own.
Oregon State began its journey on Friday, digging out of a four-run hole to down Arkansas-Little Rock, 7-4. On Saturday, with a chance to put themselves in prime position to advance out of the region, the Beavers took care of business, sending the Creighton Blue Jays into the loser's bracket with a 5-1 win. At 2-0, Oregon State had to win only once more to advance out of the regional while its opponent had to win Sunday morning, then beat the Beavers twice.
The Georgia Bulldogs were faced with the tough task of taking out Oregon State and put up an admirable effort in a back-and-forth game on Sunday night. The Beavers scored the go-ahead run in the eighth and tacked on one more in the top of the ninth to secure a 6-4 win and advance to the next round of the NCAA Tournament.
Despite backing into the regionals, Oregon State battle through the weekend, and is one step closer to an NCAA championship. Standing in the way is a formidable opponent in Vanderbilt, but the Beavers have plenty of momentum after a wildly successful weekend.
