NCAA Baseball Regionals: Oregon State, Georgia Battle For Super Regional Bid

The Oregon State Beavers have the advantage of home-field in the NCAA baseball regionals, and have capitalized with two-straight wins to put themselves in the driver's seat heading into Sunday evening's matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs. By virtue of their 2-0 record, the Beavers cannot be eliminated from contention on Sunday, and must lost twice to the Bulldogs to miss the Super Regionals. Georgia has already played once on Sunday, downing Creighton in a loser-out game, the second such game the Bulldogs have won this weekend.

For a look back at the Bulldogs' weekend, we head over to SB Nation Atlanta. A loss to Creighton on Friday knocked Georgia into the loser's bracket, leaving little margin for error going forward. It was a tough battle, but the Blue Jays held-off the Bulldogs in a pitcher's duel, 2-1. On Saturday, the Bulldogs stayed alive, handling Arkansas-Little Rock, 7-3, to advance to Sunday and keep their hopes for a Super Regional bid alive.

Facing Creighton for the second time in three days, Georgia exacted its revenge, knocking the Blue Jays out of the tournament with a one-run win, 5-4. As a reward, the Bulldogs will take the field again, faced with the tough task of beating Oregon State twice in two days.

Oregon State came skidding into the NCAA Tournament after dropping the final five games of the season. And on Friday, it looked like the Beavers were heading for the loser's bracket after falling into a 4-0 hole to Arkansas-Little Rock. But seven unanswered runs snapped the Beavers' losing streak, and put them into an excellent position going forward in the Corvallis region.

The Beavers followed up the Friday win by taking down Creighton, 5-1, on Saturday to put themselves into the best possible position in Corvallis. With the win, Oregon State was given the morning off, and will also have to win just once to advance to the Super Regionals. Georgia, on the other hand, must beat Oregon State twice, on Sunday and Monday, to survive the weekend and advance out of the regional.

The Bulldogs and Beavers take the field in Corvallis on Sunday night at 6 p.m. The game can be seen live on ESPN3.
