Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian is off to another hot recruiting start this year after pulling in an impressive class in February. Sarkisian has been hard at work on the recruiting trail and it's been paying dividends already. Thanks to a June that saw a bevy of recruits pick purple and gold, the Huskies class is filling up fast, even though the recruiting process still has six months to go until completion.
The Huskies already have a whopping 15 commitments for the class of 2012, led by two four-star quarterbacks. In-state star Jeff Lindquist, a highly sought-after quarterback from Mercer Island, pulled the trigger in late April, giving Sarkisian his first big-time recruit of the class. Lindquist had long been a target of the Huskies and also held offers from Washington State and Stanford.
But Lindquist won't be alone while vying for the starting spot under center. Just over a month after he committed, Sarkisian landed a second quarterback to compete for the job in the future. Cyler Miles, a four-star quarterback out of Colorado, pulled the trigger on June 1, giving Sarkisian options at the position. Miles is one of only two Tom Lemming top-100 players currently committed to Pac-12 schools -- the other belongs to USC.
While Lindquist and Miles are the headliners at this point, the Huskies have a loaded crop of talent at a variety of positions in the class of 2012 thus far. Washington's list of commitments includes five three-star players in addition to the aforementioned four-star quarterbacks. Included is two defensive backs, Taylor Lagace and Bryan Harper, a wide receiver, Michael Rector, a running back, Tairen Owens, and an offensive lineman, Nathan Dean.
Sarkisian picked up three commitments just two days ago and has had an excellent June. Lagace, Harper and unrated defensive end Kalei Auelua all gave Sarkisian a verbal pledge on June 28, pushing the total to 15 for the year. In June alone, the Huskies have picked up verbals from 12 of the 15 members in the class, including four of the three-star players and Miles.
The Huskies also snagged a specialist last week when Korey Durkee, a kicker/punter from Gig Harbor, chose purple and gold. Here's how the class is shaping up so far
