Seattle Sounders Transfer Rumors: Djibril Cisse, Striker From Panathinaikos, Linked To Seattle

We said a few days ago that everyone and their brother would likely be linked to the Seattle Sounders in the next month in anticipation of the MLS transfer window opening. With money available and a designated player spot open, thanks to the departure of Blaise Nkufo, Seattle has the space available to accommodate additional players and clearly needs help, especially on the offensive end. This past week, two players joined the Sounders as trialists -- Cillian Sheridan, an Irish striker, and Myron Samuel, a young and raw midfielder. But those two may just be the start, and on Friday, Djibril Cisse, a 29-year-old striker from Panathinaikos was linked to the Sounders, however thin the link may be.

The report came from Greece and was passed along by MLS Rumors. It's translated, and should be taken with a grain of salt, as is the case with all transfer rumors.

The lineup of players who previously had been linked with U.S. teams included in Djibril Cisse. Tribute site "MLS news" reports that the Panathinaikos striker is a target of the Seattle Saounters, but more to come.

An additional report notes Cisse was in Los Angeles visiting with the Galaxy this week, for whatever it's worth. It's also worth noting that Cisse has set a high price tag -- reportedly in the $5.5 million range for a transfer fee.

But he surely has the talent and would immediately fill a need at striker for the Sounders. Whether there's any substance to the rumor remains to be seen, but he is a name to keep an eye on as the transfer window approaches.
