Current Kentucky Derby 2011 Odds: Wide-Open Field Makes Predictions Impossible

To call the 2011 Kentucky Derby field wide-open may be an understatement. With the loss of Uncle Mo, and his loss at the Wood Memorial before he was forced to scratch at Churchill downs, the Kentucky Derby was thrown into a tailspin. The field is both up-for-grabs and mediocre, making it incredibly difficult to predict. And if the latest Kentucky Derby odds are any indication, bettors have no idea who will receive the garland of roses in the winner's circle.

We did take a stab at predictions this morning, though the race is quite overwhelming to figure out. Matt Garnder, who is much smarter than I, also has his picks, as well as a primer on betting the Kentucky Derby. Even still, the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby has handicappers flustered and struggling to forecast the race.

And at the windows, gamblers find themselves in the same position. The odds are just about stable now, with an hour until post time, but the lines have moved quite a bit throughout the day. Dialed In is still the favorite, though not overwhelmingly so at 5-1. Pants on Fire is close-behind at 7-1, followed by Midnight Interlude at 8-1 and Mucho Macho Man at 9-1.

Here is the full set of odds for the 2011 Kentucky Derby with just about an hour to go until the horses are called to the post.
