2011 Preakness Results, Payout: Shackleford Pays Handsomely With Win At Pimlico

It wasn’t quite the same payout as Animal Kingdom gave bettors at the Kentucky Derby, but Shackleford paid well with his win at the Preakness Stakes on Saturday. Shackleford hovered in low double-digit odds, but was lingering amongst the favorites as the field entered the starting gates at Pimlico.

And in his typical fashion, Shackleford burst to the front of the field right out of the gates and set the pace throughout, staying in front and holding off challenges throughout. Around the final turn and down the stretch, Shackleford had one more strong challenge to keep at-bay as Derby winner Animal Kingdom came charging with a strong head of steam. But in the end, it was all about Shackleford and unlike the Kentucky Derby, he didn’t fade.

The end result was Shackleford in first, Animal Kingdom a half a length behind and Astrology just behind the two in third. Dialed In finished in fourth-place after getting bumped at the top of the stretch, though he still closed hard as he has throughout his career.

Here are the payouts for the 2011 Preakness Stakes.

Shackleford 27.20, 10.20, 6.80
Animal Kingdom 4.20, 3.60
Astrology 8.00

Exacta: 5-11 $114.80
Trifecta: 5-11-1 $1,401.80
Superfecta: 5-11-1-10 $6,212.60
