Shawn Kemp Jr. Reportedly Mulling Walk-On Spot With Washington Basketball

Kim Grinolds of Dawgman.com said today on 950 KJR Sports Radio that Shawn Kemp Jr. will probably walk on with the University of Washington Men's Basketball Team.

Kemp Jr., the son of well-known former Seattle Sonics legend Shawn Kemp, was originally a member of the class of 2009 and committed in 2008 to play basketball at the University of Alabama. After being ruled academically ineligible to play at Alabama, Kemp Jr. spent the 2009-10 season playing at the Hargrave Military Academy. Kemp Jr. ended up de-committing from Alabama and committed to Auburn University in 2009. However, Kemp Jr. was again ruled academically ineligible to play at Auburn.

Lorenzo Romar and his coaching staff at the University of Washington previously offered Kemp Jr. a scholarship in 2008, but Kemp Jr. chose Alabama over both Washington and Nevada. Even as a walk-on, Kemp Jr. could solve the Huskies need for a big body in the post.

Former Auburn Head Coach Jeff Lebo had high praise for Kemp Jr. when he signed him in 2009,

"Shawn Kemp has tremendous upside," said Lebo. "He is 6-foot-10, can shoot the ball from the perimeter and has a legitimate low post game. Shawn is a kid who has really unlimited potential to go certainly to the next level with his play."
