Tony Wroten Jr., the state's top high school senior, is determined to go out in style, bringing a state championship home to Garfield this week. On Thursday, Wroten and the Garfield Bulldogs put on an impressive display of scoring against Puyallup at the Tacoma Dome in a 90-80 win. The Bulldogs survived and advanced, just two games away from a state title.
Wroten led the way for the Bulldogs with an incredible stat line, finishing with 29 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and six blocks in the 10-point win. On the other side of the court, Jay Balmer led Puyallup with 28 points of his own, but the Vikings couldn't keep pace with Garfield as the Bulldogs lit up the scoreboard.
King 5 posted a highlight video from the game, featuring an impressive alley-oop by Wroten.
A more detailed recap of the game, from the Seattle Times' Mason Kelley, can be found here. The Bulldogs move on to face the winner of Kentridge/Gonzaga Prep on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Puyallup heads to the other side of the bracket to face the loser of the Kentridge/Gonzaga game on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
