Seattle Sounders Win 3-1 Over Colorado Rapids To Take Community Shield

The Seattle Sounders reminded MLS that Fredy Montero is a force to be reckoned with as they beat the Colorado Rapids 3-1 on Wednesday night, capturing the Community Shield. The victory gives Seattle five wins in the preseason, and although it's certainly easy enough to say "It's just preseason," the performance of the team in general and Montero in particular gives Sounders fans hope going into First Kick on March 15.

It took a full sixty minutes for the goals to start flowing, but then it seemed as though they all came at once. Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, forward for a Fredy Montero free kick, headed in the first. Unfortunately, he then got a little careless, fouling Omar Cummings inside the area when he could have simply cleared the ball instead. Jeff Larentowicz stepped up to the spot and gave Colorado the equalizer.

Immediately after the Rapids goal, O'Brian White came on to replace Blaise Nkufo. Just two minutes later, he helped set up the second goal. Erik Friberg slid the ball through to Montero, who needed just one touch to send it into the back of the net. White provided assistance for Montero's second goal as well, with Montero looping the shot over substitute Rapids keeper Steward Ceus.

Montero met Juanes, the Colombian singing sensation, on Tuesday, giving him a Sounders scarf and just generally chilling with international star. I think we can all agree that Juanes should forgo his U.S. tour to follow around the Sounders instead.
