The week didn't get off to a great start for the Washington State Cougars and California Golden Bears as each team lost in demoralizing fashion. For one team, it was a comeback that fizzled out, while the other never stood a chance. Both teams are looking to rebound on Saturday as the Cougs and Bears square-off in Pullman at 3 p.m.
The Cougs took the floor in Pullman favored against the Stanford Cardinal, only to watch as Stanford put on a shooting display in the first half, roaring out to a 45-28 halftime lead. Though Washington State mounted a strong comeback in the second half, closing to within one midway through the second half, it wasn't to be as Stanford pulled away in the end to win, 75-62.
Cal, on the other hand, was throttled by the Washington Huskies on Thursday. The Huskies were in the midst of a three-game losing streak, yet came out and completely dominated the Bears from the onset in a 109-77 win. Not only did they lose the game, they may have lost the services of outstanding freshman Allen Crabbe, who scored 30 points as the Bears squeaked out an 88-81 win over WSU on Jan. 13. Crabbe suffered a concussion during the first half of Cal's loss to the Huskies and is a game-time decision on Saturday.
The Cougs and Bears tip it off at 3 p.m. in Pullman, with no TV coverage. However, the game will be streamed on WSUCougars.com for free as part of a deal with CSTV. All the information for that can be found here.
