The Washington Huskies and the Marquette Golden Eagles are in a tight game at the Madison Square Garden in New York at the Jimmy V. Classic.
The Huskies raced out to an 11-2 lead in the first four minutes of play, behind three three-pointers. Washington has benefited from three-point shooting, hitting 4-of-11 in the first half. Senior forward Darnell Gant leads the Huskies with ten points, with two three-pointers. Darius Johnson-Odom leads his team with 13 points, with Todd Mayo also adding in eight points for the Golden Eagles.
Neither team has gotten into an offensive rhythm. Both Marquette and Washington turned the ball over nine times. Washington's 2-3 zone slowed down Marquette's offense at the start of the first half, but the Golden Eagles were able to dig themselves out of the Huskies' early lead.
Washington's guards have continued to struggle; point guard Abdul Gaddy collected two fouls and is scoreless, while Tony Wroten has turned the ball over two times.
