BCS Rankings, Week 11: Oregon Climbs Over Arkansas To No. 7

The Oregon Ducks moved up a spot over the Arkansas Razorbacks after a convincing 34-17 victory over the Washington Huskies, and now sit at 7th in the BCS rankings. Although it hardly makes much sense on the surface why exactly Oregon would move up over Arkansas now after the Hogs just beat a top ten team in South Carolina the week previous.

One would have to guess Oregon gets the bump not because of anything they did, but because the team they lost to (LSU) is solidly in first in the BCS rankings now. And the team Arkansas lost to (Alabama) dropped a spot to third. So the "GAME OF THE CENTURY" made a big difference for both these teams, as strength of schedule improved for the Ducks while it decreased for the Razorbacks. Not that any of it makes any sense from any sort of reasonable point of rankings system.

Basically, the scenarios are too complicated to really consider at this moment. Oregon needs to keep winning to simplify the situation, and they can take a big leap if they beat Stanford in Palo Alto this week. It's the only way they can really start caring about where they're actually positioned in the rankings, because they're still pretty far away from the top two.
