The Oregon Ducks were starting to land some top recruits to help get basketball fans in the stands at Matthew Knight Arena. Tops among them was Jabari Brown from Oakland High, who was considered one of the top recruits in the country (26th in the ESPNU 100, 19th nationally by Rivals) and figured to be a breakthrough star that would bring Ducks basketball back to the top of the conference.
It appears like it's not going to happen. George Schroeder of the Register-Guard reports.
Brown's departure wouldn't kill Oregon this season, but it could significantly diminish their upside this season. Brown has a lot of potential to slash and score and finish at the basket once he grows and develops, and now Oregon loses a bit of their athleticism. The Ducks have been playing hard-nosed basketball under Dana Altman though, so don't expect them to stop competing in the big games because of this setback.
