In the end, the Oregon State Beavers ended up being bigger underdogs than anyone expected, as they lost to the Utah Utes by a final score of 27-8.
The big story in this game was Utah's massive second quarter, as they exploded for 21 points with two touchdown passes and a touchdown run. Apart from that disastrous quarter, the Oregon State defense held the Utes to a pair of field goals in the first and fourth quarters.
When all was said and done, the Beavers were done in by an almost complete lack of offense. They didn't get on the board until the start of the fourth quarter, when Sean Mannion threw a short touchdown pass to Markus Wheaton. The Beavers then failed on a two-point conversion, but got those two points shortly afterwards when Utah took a holding penalty in their own end zone, resulting in a safety.
That would be it for the Beavers offense, as Utah picks up their first Pac-12 win of the season in a game that Oregon state would just as soon forget.
