Diego Forlán to the Seattle Sounders? The rumors have been floating about for awhile, clogging up Twitter, drifting through random blogs desperate for hits. They've yet to be addressed in this space because they've seemed absolutely ridiculous, but today, Chris Reiko reports that Spanish radio station Cadena SER are talking about Atlético Madrid's "attractive offer" from Seattle Sounders:
Diego Forlan Uruguayan striker of Atletico Madrid had received an attractive offer from #MLS #Sounders -By Spanish radio "Cadena Ser" #SSFC
To be fair, I have no idea how credible Cadena SER are. Are they a tabloid radio station? Do such things exist? Are they reporting on sensational rumors? The idea of a legitimate World Cup star coming to Seattle still seems far-fetched.
Yet at the same time, Sounders could make sense. Forlán was an utter disappointment at Manchester United, as World Cup announcers never let us forget. Perhaps he doesn't want a return to the Premier League. Atleti are poor at the moment, to put it mildly, sitting sixth in La Liga and failing to defend their Europa League title. Plus, Seattle already has a Uruguayan in Álvaro Fernández, so maybe Forlán has actually heard about the Sounders.
Only time will tell, of course, and time will likely show us that this rumor is laughable, but for now, it's nice to ponder the arrival of Abs.
