With the 29th pick in the MLS SuperDraft, the Seattle Sounders selected Bryan Meredith, goalkeeper from Monmouth University. With the possibility looming that current goalkeeper Kasey Keller may retire sometime in the near future, the Sounders are continuing to search for a long-term answer. With Keller starting, and Terry Boss working as the backup, Meredith has time to develop with the Sounders, giving coaches a chance to evaluate whether he's the answer in the future.
Meredith started 41 games in his career at Monmouth, through the 2009 season, boasting a .45 goals against average and a save percentage of .845. With Meredith in the net, Monmouth held a record of 30-5-6, with 25 of those 30 wins coming by way of shutout. Behind first-round pick Zach MacMath, Meredith was thought to be the second-best goalie in the 2011 MLS Draft, as well.
With that, the Sounders are done in second round, with only a third round pick remaining. Seattle's next pick is the 49th overall choice, coming late in the third round.
