Latest ESPNU Top 100 Ranks Tony Wroten Jr. No. 31 In Class Of 2011

New, 2 comments

Back in August, we noted that Garfield High guard Tony Wroten Jr. was ranked the No. 27 player in the class of 2011 by Scout.com, which prompted Wroten to tweet that, “rankings don’t mean nothing.”

Today, ESPNU has released its latest Class of 2011 Top 100 prospects and again Wroten is ranked below his true talent level, checking in at No. 31.

Wroten is one of only two Washington state high school basketball players to be ranked in ESPNU’s Top 100. The other is Gonzaga recruit and Kentridge High star Gary Bell, Jr., who checks in at No. 65.

On Monday, Wroten said he was still considering five colleges, including the University of Washington. Two notable UW recruits from California find their way into ESPNU’s Top 100: Guard Jabari Brown checks in at No. 22 and forward Angelo Chol ranks No. 75.

One final footnote: Portland’s Kyle Wiltjer was the only player from Oregon to make the list, checking in surprisingly high at No 12. Wiltjer had been linked to Gonzaga but shocked many observers when he committed to Kentucky on August 28th. Wiltjer is one of four Kentucky recruits in ESPNU’s Top 12, along with Michael Gilchrist (No. 2), Anthony Davis (No. 3) and Marquis Teague (No. 7).
