Major League Soccer has announced that Fredy Montero has been voted the Player of the Month for July. I may be biased, but no other player was even close to Montero during the past month. Our Colombian was simply en fuego, and yes, I’ll steal the beloved Edgar phrase if I so choose.
↵In the five games the Sounders played in July, the club record was 3-1-1, with Montero contributing 2 goals and 3 assists. In the last game of the month, he also scored the Sounders’ first competitive international goal.
↵Montero’s month has been more than simple statistics, however. Supporters can see the change on the field. The forward seems to be everywhere, winning the ball back from the defense, taking shots from distance, dribbling through the midfield, fooling opposing players, and even using his small stature in attempts to head the ball into the net.
↵Congrats to Fredy on this much-deserved award. Now let’s use that last DP spot to keep him in Seattle rather than allowing him to be sent off to Europe.
