OK: Are you like me and at first thought, "Good lord, if this is anything like that Rob Riggle atrocity, I am done done done with Hollywood Pete," but instead found yourself charmed? It isn’t some worn, low-concept, no-execution, is-this-supposed-to-be-funny, bit. It’s just two buddies sitting around, riffing, talking crap about each other and being likable.

Pete Carroll is likable. Charisma is his 80 tool. Most statistical analysts and x’s-and-o’s analysts agree that in the NFL, talent wins. Decision making ranges towards the conservative almost unwaveringly, schemes are fairly simple and universal, and you either have the horses or you don’t. Charisma might help Carroll amass NFL talent.

It already has, in one way. He scored legendary offensive line coach Alex Gibbs right away, and that is a major get. Attracting players will take more than the sheen of Hollywood, it will take winning. But if Carroll begins to win in Seattle, winning might just work together with his connections, high profile and character to turn Seattle into a mecca for free agents. Paul Allen’s money doesn’t hurt.

So what do you think, will Carroll’s charm have a tangible impact on the Seahawks, or is it so much fluff? And can his reputation survive a losing season? Two?
