Seattle Sounders Down Portland Timbers 4-3 On Penalties

After remaining deadlocked 1-1 through 120 minutes of play, the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers went to penalty kicks to determine the winner of their US Open Cup match. The Seattle Sounders triumphed 4-3 on penalty kicks and will advance to the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup to face the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer next Wednesday in Seattle.

Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller saved two of the five shots he faced during the penalty shootout and Seattle took care of its striking business, making four of their five attempts. Zach Scott sealed the deal with Seattle’s four and final made penalty kick.
