The writers have spoken and Oregon is still No. 1 in the AP Poll this morning. After an impressive victory against USC, the Ducks easily stayed atop the rankings, garnering 49 of a possible 60 first place votes. Their win over the Trojans dropped USC out of the rankings this week.
Boise State barely hung-on to the No. 2 spot in the rankings, finishing just four points ahead of Auburn. The Broncos fear being leapfrogged in the BCS, despite their undefeated record. TCU and Alabama round out the top-25. The Horned Frogs are steadily stalking the top-2 spots in the poll while quietly putting together an undefeated season. Alabama jumps back into the top-5 after Michigan lost to Nebraska.
Stanford found itself moving up in the world with a huge win over the Washington Huskies yesterday. The Cardinal checked in at No. 10, the second time Jim Harbaugh's team has been in the top-10 this year. The Arizona Wildcats also jumped two spots, picking up the No. 13 ranking. Oregon, Stanford and Arizona are the only Pac-10 teams in this week's rankings. Oregon State, with a home win over Cal, did fall under the others receiving votes category, picking up 16 votes.
Punishment was an apt word for the AP Poll this week. After Iowa rolled-over Michigan State, the Spartans found them free-falling in the poll, dropping 11 places. The other big upset of the day came in the Big 12, where Missouri fell at Nebraska. The Tigers fell only seven spots, receiving less punishment for making it a game.
The third BCS rankings will be released tonight, but with Oregon and Auburn winning the top-2 should stay the same. However, Oregon could pass Auburn in the rankings for the No. 1 spot after teams higher than the Ducks in the computer rankings stumbled yesterday.
