Ryan Leaf Sentenced Seven Years, Will Receive Drug Addiction Treatment For Nine Months

Ryan Leaf will be getting a chance to redeem himself and try and make something of his troubling drug addiction. Unfortunately, he will also have to spend time in jail for his latest crimes.

Leaf apparently robbed the home of an acquaintance to acquire painkillers. He also violated his probation, which forced him to stay in custody. He also faced two counts of criminal possession for holding onto dangerous drugs. Leaf could have faced up to 50 years in prison if he received the maximum punishment.

The Associated Press reports that Leaf finally received his sentence for his latest crimes, and Leaf will be spending seven years under the supervision of the Department of Corrections.

District Judge Kenneth Neill of Great Falls sentenced Leaf on Tuesday to seven years with the Department of Corrections, with two years suspended. Neill recommended that Leaf's sentence start with treatment at a program in Lewistown, followed by time in a prerelease center.

It's a sad day for Leaf, and one can only hope that he's able to turn it around during his sentence.

Ryan Leaf Charged With Four Felonies From March Arrest

Ryan Leaf has had a tendency to get himself into trouble over the last two decades. The once-promising quarterback prospect has seemingly been in a free fall since being drafted, with his latest fallout coming from a March arrest for burglary and possession of illegal drugs. On Friday, Leaf was charged with four felonies, two for burglary and two for criminal possession of a dangerous drug, according to a report from CBS Sports.

If convicted, Leaf faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years on each burglary charge and five years for each possession charge.

An arraignment has not yet been scheduled. A message left with Leaf's attorney in Great Falls was not returned Friday afternoon.

Leaf is jailed without bond on a 30-day hold on charges that the Montana arrest violated the terms of his probation from a 2010 plea deal in Texas. In that case, Leaf was accused of burglarizing a player's home while he was a quarterbacks coach for Division II West Texas A&M and an investigation turned up that Leaf had obtained nearly 1,000 pain pills from pharmacies.

It sure does seem like Leaf has gotten himself into some serious trouble with the law here. Perhaps the inevitable jail time he will face will finally straighten him out, but that doesn't seem too likely given his track record. It'll likely be months before we get any kind of final court decision.

Ryan Leaf Was Arrested In Montana Monday Morning On Burglary Charges

According to The Associated Press, former Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf was arrested early today in Great Falls, Montana - just two days after posting bail for drug and burglary charges - once again facing burglary charges.

Leaf is facing charges of burglary, theft and two counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs.

Leaf's most recent crime occurred on Saturday, just a day after Leaf was arrested and charged with burglarizing an acquaintance's home for prescription painkillers.

To make matters worse, Leaf is also being detained due to violating his probation, which will now prevent him from being released from jail.

The former no. 2 overall pick in the NFL draft struggled from day one both on and off the field while in the league and is considered among the greatest draft busts of all-time.

But there were people who felt like Leaf was finally headed in the right direction. Sad to say that these latest incidents provide facts beyond that belief.

We'll keep you posted as we learn more about Leaf's legal troubles.
