WSU Football Recruiting: Mike Leach With Strong Performance

Mike Leach didn't have a lot of time to make his mark on Washington State football, but he put together a pretty impressive class in a short period of time. Given only just under two months to get players to commit to become Cougars, Leach found some impressive players, particularly one wide receiver.

Ben Glicksman of Sports Illustrated graded the new coaches and how they performed in a short span of time to land recruits, and Leach came out favorably.

Washington State's Mike Leach: B. Since Rivals began keeping track in 2002, Washington State has landed a top 50 recruiting class just once (No. 24 in 2004). It's no small feat, then, that Leach signed 12 three- and four-star prospects following his Nov. 30 introduction. He even convinced wide receiver Gabriel Marks, Rivals' No. 87 recruit in 2012, to come to Pullman. Consider the 6-foot, 175-pounder the first piece of a budding Pac-12 offensive power.

Leach definitely will struggle to land top recruits up in Pullman, but he has Washington State contending for legitimate FBS talent more and more, particularly by landing studs like Marks.
