DeAngelo Casto May Play In Wednesday NIT Game After Suspension Lifted

On Tuesday, Washington State forward DeAngelo Casto was suspended indefinitely following a marijuana citation received shortly after the Cougars’ win over Oklahoma State in the NIT. A search at his residence turned up a small amount of marijuana early Tuesday morning, forcing head coach Ken Bone to suspend Casto for a violation of team rules. But on Wednesday, following Casto’s decision to contest the citation, athletic director Bill Moos decided to lift the suspension, allowing Casto to play in Washington State’s NIT game with Northwestern later that night.

The report comes from the Spokesman-Review’s Vince Grippi, with quotes from Moos on the matter.

"There has been a great deal of discussion regarding DeAngelo and his situation over the past 24 hours," Moos said in a media release. "There are unique circumstances involving this matter and I feel the appropriate avenue to take is to allow the legal system to run its course before we consider further action."

While the legal system runs its course, it appears Casto will be free to participate in team activities, including Wednesday night’s game and any that may follow. Washington State faces Northwestern at 8 p.m. on ESPN2 with a trip to Madison Square Garden for the NIT Final Four on the line.
