Washington TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins sets one record, on the way to several more

Otto Greule Jr

Austin Seferian-Jenkins is making a strong case for the title of best tight end in Husky history. He now holds the record for most career receiving yards by a tight end, and he's likely to grab the career receptions, single season reception, and single season yardage records before he's done.

Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins had a record-breaking night on Friday, setting a new school record for most career receiving yards by a tight end. With 1,168 yards in less than two full years, Seferian-Jenkins surpassed Dave Williams' career mark of 1,133, set in the years 1964 to 1966. He also tied the school record for most receptions by a tight end in a single season (48, set by Jerramy Stevens in the 2000 season).

The sophomore from Fox Island, Wash. is on a tear and doesn't look likely to stop until he's at the top of every UW list. He had eight receptions for a season-high 152 yards in Friday night's win over Cal, putting him at 630 yards for the season. With three games left in the Huskies' season, it's almost certain he'll break Williams' single-season mark, and with 78 receptions in his career in less than two full years, he's also extremely likely to break Mark Bruener' 1991-1994 record of 95 career receptions by a tight end.

Finally, the school record for most receiving yards in a single season by a tight end is 795, also held by Williams. Seferian-Jenkins is averaging 70 yards per game this season, and if he can manage 55 per game through the final three, that record will belong to him as well. Washington's season has had some ups and downs, but win or lose, Husky fans can root for history unfolding in front of them.
