The Washington Huskies pulled out an upset over No. 8 Stanford on Thursday night. Here was some reaction from the Cardinal players and coaches.

The Washington Huskies pulled off quite the upset on Thursday night in front of a national audience, stunning No. 8 Stanford by a score of 17-13. While the win was huge for the UW football program, it was equally deflating for a Cardinal team that entered with high expectations.

Following the loss, the Stanford players and coaches had to reflect on the showdown in Seattle. Here are what a few of them had to say. All quotes courtesy of The News Tribune.

Here is head coach David Shaw and his take on what the Washington defense did that made them so successful.

"No, everybody has wrinkles every game that they do differently, but I thought we did a good job of seeing what they were, but the bottom line is that we get to third downs we have got to convert.

And as for what went wrong with Stanford's offense in the game.

"A combination of them playing really well and us not playing well, we didn't play well enough to win. We didn't make the throws we needed to make, we didn't make the catches we need to make. We didn't sustain our blocks in the running game as long we should have. We got outplayed tonight."

Quarterback Josh Nunes weighed in on the crowd and atmosphere at the stadium. Nunes was playing the first road game of his career.

It was a great environment. We need to step up and prepare for it. There were a lot of third down failures.

And here is linebacker Trent Murphy, who came away with a big interception and touchdown return that was a momentum changer for Stanford.

"Biggest thing is disappointment, because I know we could have played better than that, we should have played better than that, but this will kind of drive us further, we've just got to keep chopping wood and it will take care of itself."

The Huskies will enjoy their win through the end of the week before returning to practice. The club makes a road trip to Oregon next weekend.
