Gilles Dierichx Transferring To Washington, According To Report

Gilles Dierichx, a seven-foot center from Florida International University (FIU) is transferring to Washington, according to a report by Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times.

Dierichx, a rising sophomore, started in 15 games for FIU this past season, averaging 2.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. A native of Ghent, Belgium, the seven-footer spent two seasons at West Hills Chaminade HS in Southern California. Dierichx will have to sit out one season before suiting up for the Huskies due to NCAA transfer rules.

After failing to sign a recruit from the class of 2012, the Huskies have netted three transfers since the end of their season in March: forward Perris Blackwell from San Francisco, wing Mark McLaughlin from Tacoma Community College and now Dierichx from FIU.

Dierichx adds another competent body down low for the Huskies. He will provide depth and compete for minutes with Shawn Kemp Jr. and Martin Breunig.

Washington's athletic department has yet to confirm the transfer.
