UW Basketball: CJ Wilcox's 24 Points In A Half Was Most Since 1995

SBN's Bruins Nation's account of tthe Washington Huskies' 70-63 win last night is pretty accurate - it was a battle early on with both teams making miscues, the Bruins either fell asleep or fell apart (depending on your perspective) and CJ Wilcox blew up to win.

And for all the talk about the Huskies maintaining focus and composure, it's actually sort of nice to see them be the beneficiaries of someone else's loss of composure.

But far more exciting was Wilcox's performance, who stepped up to score all of his 24 points in the second half and rescue the Huskies from a second consecutive home loss.

Without Wilcox, UW was under 30% for the game. UCLA shut down UW best players in Thomas and MBA. (Thomas baskets came late when UCLA was pressing.) However, while the defense has consistently become better as this season goes on, as Patroclus discussed, Honeycutt was nowhere to be seen in this game and is getting worse.

Wilcox easily has some of the smoothest shooter's footwork in the Pac-10, if not the nation, and last night it all came together when the Huskies needed it most. Romar has spoken in the past about how quick he is in getting to his spots, but far more impressive is how consistent both his form and release are on every single shot.

There were some media members wondering after the Washington State game about whether he was ready to start in big game situations and Romar (rightly) pointed out that he was fine during the "White Out" game at Arizona also on ESPN. Hopefully last night's game put any further questions to rest.
