Alamo Bowl 2011: Huskies Will Play In Front Of A Full House

The Washington Huskies are spending the Christmas weekend in San Antonio as they prepare to face off against the Baylor Bears in the 2011 Alamo Bowl on December 29. According to Jerry Briggs of the San Antonio Express-News, playing a game against a newly-crowned Heisman Trophy winner may have numerous perks.

Only a few tickets remain for the game -- tickets that are for a partially obstructed view -- with just under a week until kickoff. The reason that's notable? Simple: the Alamo Bowl holds 65,000 people. The Huskies will be taking on Baylor's quarterback, Robert Griffin III, who was just named the 2011 Heisman winner. Both the national crowd watching at home and the live attendees will be paying rapt attention, eager to see RG3 strut his stuff.

The Huskies have an excellent opportunity to make everyone watching stand up and take notice of Washington football. You can certain the team is well aware that this is their national stage and that they intend to make the most of it. They should know that a crowd like this isn't common at the Alamo Bowl; of the 19 years the Alamo Bowl has been played, only eight of those games featured crowds of more than 64,000 fans. The attendance record for the game was in 2007 when 66,166 people watched Penn State beat Texas A&M, 24-17.
