It was a frightful scene in Palo Alto last Saturday for Washington Huskies fans, but it's a new day, a new week, and a new opponent for UW. Historically, the Huskies are a great bounce back team after a tough loss, and hope that this Saturday will be no different.
"It's hard for a team to come back from that, but we are mentally tough," junior cornerback Desmond Trufant said, "We have been in this situation before. We've had big losses. We're just on to the next one."
Gregg Bell over at GoHuskies.com did some research and found the Huskies are the only team from a BCS conference since the start of the 2010 season to get a win three times following a loss while allowing 50 or more points. In fact, no other team has ever gone on a four-game win streak, including a win in a bowl game, immediately following 50 points in a loss.
"Yeah, we know how to bounce back." said senior defensive end Everrette Thompson.
Take a look at this little table Bell put together of Washington's bounce back wins over the last two seasons:
Team | Date of Loss | Following Win |
Washington | 9/18/10, L 56-21 to Nebraska | Beat USC 32-31 |
Washington | 12/7/10, L 53-16 to Oregon | Beat UCLA 24-7 |
Washington | 9/17/11, L 51-38 to Nebraska | Beat Cal 31-23 |
Washington | 10/22/11, L 62-21 to Stanford | ????? |
Obviously this isn't an exact science, but it definitely bodes well for the Huskies this Saturday.
