SBN Seattle: Wroten Joins Long List Of Local Area UW Recruits

Seattecommentaryjpg_medium

The delicate part is over for University of Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar: he has now officially landed top high school talent Tony Wroten Jr. from Seattle's Garfield High School, who verbally committed to the Huskies on Thursday. Now comes the challenge: turn the potential into real achievements, and that means a deep tournament run.

Wroten is not only following in his father's footsteps by attending the University of Washington but he also joins a long list of local players to commit to the Huskies. Brian Floyd of SBN Seattle charts the successes and failures of recent local UW recruits and wonders whether Wroten might be the talent to take Washington to a Final Four

They've had success before, riding the backs of players like Nate RobinsonBrandon Roy and John Brockman. They've also had failures, with one-and-done Spencer Hawes not doing much during his time in Montlake.

Washington heads into the 2010 season as the Pac-10 favorite with a stacked roster. With the addition of Wroten and another talented recruiting class in 2011, there's no reason to think that won't continue in the near future. While my school, Washington State, is trying to make in-roads with the Seattle area talent, Lorenzo Romar continues to keep a stranglehold on the area.
