The Tampa Bay Lightning join the new Atlantic Division in 2013-2014 -- how do they match-up with their new Northeastern rivals?

Frozen Grounds: Where to Get Your NHL News

While the bulk of the teams in the NHL resides on American soil, ESPN's SportsCenter is not a good show to turn to for NHL news. Here are some alternatives.

The Globe Sports podcast

I'll give you three guesses what this week's Globe hockey podcast is about ... and you may not need two of them. Eric Duhatschek and I offer our thoughts on Jim Balsillie and the Coyotes business and also get into the four playoff series going on in the background. As much as I love me a good hockey business story, it's unfortunate this bankruptcy business couldn't have waited another month. (Then again, at least it didn't occur during the finals.)

The Globe Sports podcast

Myself and Eric Duhatschek do a few postmortems on the Flames, Sharks, Rangers and Devils, and offer picks for the second round in the weekly podcast. Among the questions: Should Calgary look to move Dion Phaneuf? How does San Jose retool? Are the Rangers in trouble next season and could Marty Brodeur be on the downswing?

The Globe Sports podcast

Another week, another podcast. This time around, Sean Gordon breaks down the Habs demise, Eric Duhatschek talks about the Hawks-Flames series, and we all look at why the Blues couldn't win a game, why the Bruins couldn't lose and if the Capitals can manage a comeback. (You can subscribe to these on iTunes, too.)

The Globe Sports podcast

Previewing the NHL playoffs and making some pool picks along with Eric Duhatschek and The Globe and Mail's Vancouver-based correspondent Matthew Sekeres. This one's nearly an hour long, so grab a hot chocolate.

The Globe Sports podcast

This week in the newsroom, we hand out some of the major NHL awards. I'll have a more in-depth take on my picks when all of the games are finished, but the early leaders are in here along with Eric Duhatschek's. The preview? He's a Chara guy, I go Green.

The Globe Sports podcast

This week's topics include the NHL-NHLPA spat over Olympic participation, a potential labour war in 2011, the struggling Alberta teams and the Sharks' playoff hopes. On the podcast: Eric Duhatschek and Al Maki, both based out of Calgary.

A Globe Sports podcast

Here's a little something we've been working on in the newsroom the past couple weeks: The Globe Sports podcast. They are generally about a half hour, and so far have included Eric Duhatschek, Matt Sekeres in Vancouver, Sean Gordon in Montreal and myself. In the near future, the plan is for the shows to be on iTunes with other podcasts offered by the newspaper. This week's edition is about the Habs, the Bruins, the Red Wings and the Blue Jackets. Among other things.

The Globe's series on junior hockey

I've been a little quieter here than usual lately, and that's due to some work going on away from the blog. The Globe's been producing a five-part series on junior hockey this week, with four...
