Fredy Montero To Have Surgery On Wrist, Questionable For Saturday's Match

With the Seattle Sounders already facing a lack of firepower (or at least, a considerable dearth of shots that actually make it to the target, with even less going into the back of the net), the last thing any fan wants to hear is that Fredy Montero is injured. But injured he is, having hurt his wrist in such a manner that requires the forward to have surgery on Thursday. Now, the untrained eye might question whether having a wrist injury should keep one from playing soccer, given that the use of hands is quite actively discouraged. But considering surgery usually involves painkillers and a bit of a loopy feeling, it might be best if Montero misses the match. As is, his status for the Sounders visit to San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday is questionable, according to coach Sigi Schmid.

In related Sounders news, James Riley, who'd been suffering from a concussion (although not one that kept him from tweeting, fortunately) is fit to play on Saturday, relegating Zach Scott back to the bench. Leo Gonzalez, who received his green card earlier this week and no longer takes up an international slot on the roster, is also clear to play after picking up a knock in training Tuesday.
