Seahawks Sign Free Agent RB Kregg Lumpkin

The Seahawks have signed 27-year old running back Kregg Lumpkin, most recently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Lumpkin, 5'11, 228, is a former undrafted free agent out of Georgia that was signed by the Green Bay Packers in 2008. After an impressive training camp, he made the 53-man roster that year, but suffered an injury early on and was played on the injured reserve. He stuck with the Packers on the IR and practice squad until 2010 when he was released in final roster cutdowns, and subsequently he signed with the Buccaneers. Lumpkin was originally a highly recruited tailback - 2nd only to Reggie Bush in 2003 rankings, but his college performance never lived up to that due to injuries his sophomore and senior season.

In his NFL career, he has 33 rushing attempts for 124 yards and 45 catches for 325 yards. We'll see what this signing amounts to - he might just be a camp body, similar to Thomas Clayton of last season, or the Seahawks may have a real plan for him - in the backfield or in special teams.
