Charlie Whitehurst Signs With San Diego Chargers, Ends 'Era' In Seattle

The Seattle Seahawks had no real intention of re-signing backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst in the offseason. While the QB situation in Seattle is not exactly pretty at the moment, Whitehurst was not going to see much playing time unless injuries affected those ahead of him. On Friday afternoon, the 29-year-old signed with the San Diego Chargers, ending his stint with the Seahawks.

Whitehurst appeared in three games with Seattle in 2011, throwing for 298 yards and a touchdown pass on 56 attempts. He was originally drafted by the Chargers in the third round and his primary role will be to backup Phillip Rivers in case he were to get injured.

This move certainly is not surprising, but a team can never have too much quarterback depth, especially when there is not a clear-cut starter within the organization.
