Pro Football Hall Of Fame 2012: Recognition For Cortez Kennedy And A Look Ahead To 2013 Candidates

The Seattle Seahawks and their fans got some very good news on Hall of Fame Saturday. When the 2012 class of inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame was announced, Cortez Kennedy was among the six players selected for enshrinement in Canton this August. The dominant defensive tackle played all 11 of his NFL seasons with the Seahawks and will now be recognized as one of the greatest to ever play the game. Which, of course, is something that Seattle fans already knew.

Cortez will not be forced to duke it out with a deep list of candidates next year. In 2013 there will be a new crop of eligibles for the Hall of Fame. These include Larry Allen, Morten Andersen, Priest Holmes, Steve McNair, Jonathan Ogden, Warren Sapp, Michael Strahan and Bryant Young.

These names are, of course, in addition to all of the finalists and semifinalists from this year who did not manage to make the cut.

After his rookie year, he played in every game except for nine, eight of which when he missed half the season in 1997. 2012 NFL Hall Of Fame Finalists: Cortez Kennedy Could Represent Seahawks In HOF Class

The NFL will announce the members of the 2012 class for the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. Those elected will be enshrined in Canton in August before the 2012 NFL season gets underway. One of the finalists on the ballot is a player with extremely deep ties to the Seattle Seahawks franchise.

Defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy was selected by the Seahawks in the first round of the 1990 draft, as the third overall selection. He would go on to play his entire NFL career with Seattle, from 1990 until 2000. Cortez was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, a three-time First-Team All-Pro selection and the 1992 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He was named to the 1990s All-Decade Team and is a member of the Seattle Seahawks Ring of Honor. If all of that weren't enough, he was named by SI.com as the greatest athlete to ever wear the number 96.

This is Kennedy's second time as a Hall of Fame ballot finalist. With a little luck, the dominant defenseman will soon find himself representing the Seahawks in the Hall.
