Jake Locker, Matt Hasselbeck Will Compete For Titans QB Job In 2012

Head coach Mike Munchak disclosed Thursday that Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker will compete for the team's starting quarterback position during the off-season.

The Tennessee Titans brought in longtime Matt Hasselbeck to keep an eye on things in 2011 while first-round draft pick Jake Locker adjusted to the NFL. With a year under his belt, the team now thinks it's time for Locker to go for the starting job, that is, if he can unseat the guy currently there.

Head coach Mike Munchak disclosed Thursday that Hasselbeck and Locker will compete for the team's starting quarterback position during the off-season.

"So how do you make two guys happy that are that competitive? That is a tough part and neither one of those guys want the job handed to them, they want to compete for it," Munchak said on Thursday. "We’ll try and do the best we can and in May, June and in training camp, we’ll put them in a situation where they are competing and hopefully it will be obvious who should be the best guy to lead the team because you don’t want the quarterback question to be going on every week. 'Who’s the guy? Who’s the guy?'.

"We are hoping they can compete and things will work out."

Hasselbeck started all 16 games in 2011, completing 61.6 percent of his passes for 3,571 yards with 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Locker appeared in five games, completing 34-of-66 passes for 542 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions, also amassing 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
