Seahawks have till Monday to decide on Walter Thumond's status

Seattle has a week longer than originally reported to make a decision on whether to activate Thurmond, who is recovering from breaking his fibula twice in the span of six months.

The Seattle Seahawks have until Monday to decide whether they will activate cornerback Walter Thurmond from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, according to Danny O'Neil of The Seattle Times.

O'Neil had originally reported that the Seahawks would have to make a decision by Nov. 5, but after reviewing the NFL's guidelines, he reports (and Pete Carroll confirmed yesterday) that Seattle has 21 days from Thurmond's return to practice to make that decision. Since Thurmond did not return to practice until Oct. 22, the team has six days left to decide whether they will activate him.

The 5'11 Thurmond is recovering after suffering a broken fibula twice in the span of six months. In 14 games for the Seahawks in 2011, the third-year pro made 37 tackles (33 solo) and notched seven pass deflections. His return to action would add depth to one of the better pass defenses in the NFL, and he'd likely see action in the slot along with veteran Marcus Trufant.

The Seahawks play host to the New York Jets at CenturyLink Field in Week 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. PT and the game will be televised on CBS.
