Fantasy Football 2012: Sidney Rice emerging as Russell Wilson's favorite target

Sidney Rice was targeted six times in Week 5 and could be a solid option for fantasy owners on Sunday against the New England Patriots' shoddy pass defense.

There isn't much to write home about when it comes to the Seattle Seahawks' passing attack, but after a solid Week 5 game against the Carolina Panthers, wide receiver Sidney Rice is emerging as one of Russell Wilson's top targets.

The sixth-year veteran out of South Carolina notched season highs in both receptions (5) and yards (67) last Sunday. He was targeted six times, but failed to score a touchdown for the fifth week in a row.

Rice is projected to put up similar numbers in the Seahawks' Week 6 showdown with the New England Patriots, who have one of the NFL's worst pass defenses, allowing 291.6 yards per game. Fantasy owners can turn to Rice as a possible option in deeper leagues, but will have to decide whether they trust the unreliable arm of Wilson, who has struggled in his rookie season.

It's no surprise that the most consistent fantasy player on the Seahawks roster has been running back Marshawn Lynch. Although the sixth-year back has only found his way into the end zone twice in 2012, he hasn't rushed for less than 85 yards in a game on the season. He's a no-brainer start in Week 6, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect too much from him against a Patriots run defense that is ranked eighth in the NFL in yards allowed per game (82.2).

Kickoff for Sunday's game is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. PT at CenturyLink Field and the game will be televised on CBS.
