Seahawks Free Agency 2012: Pete Carroll Hopes TE John Carlson Can Return Next Season

The Seattle Seahawks are entering their offseason and are almost certainly beginning their plans for 2012. They have already signed a handful of futures contracts, so it's safe to assume they are weighing their options on Seahawks players who are entering free agency.

One of those impending free agents is tight end John Carlson, who missed the entirety of the 2011 season following surgery to repair a labrum injury. Zach Miler was signed to a contract this season and at the season-ending press conference, Pete Carroll discussed his desire to pair Carlson and Miller together in Seattle's continued use of two-tight-ends sets.

Following the press conference, it was an easy leap for Eric Williams of Seahawks Insider at The News Tribune to assume that the Seahawks are planning on pursuing Carlson in the offseason.

"Our image of having Zach and John going at it - you saw how many extra tight ends we used," Carroll said. "We thought it could really enhance John's game having Zach here, so we're hoping we can get that done and get him back with us."

Carlson is definitely an elite tight end when healthy, so it seems a safe bet that Seattle fans would be eager to see Carroll's plans come to fruition. Time will tell whether they will be able to hammer out a deal.
