Matt Leinart Agrees To Terms With Seattle Seahawks, According To Report

Edit: Leinart to the Seahawks is not official and he has denied the reports on his Twitter account.

As expected, Matt Leinart has reportedly agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks, becoming the second free agent quarterback to agree to a contract with the team on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, Tarvaris Jackson agreed to terms with the Seahawks, and will reportedly sign a contract on Friday, the first day free agents can officially sign. Leinart has been a rumored target of the Seahawks, with many hypothesizing that he could be reunited with former USC head coach Pete Carroll.

According to ESPN, Leinart and the Seahawks agreed to a contract, just as Jackson and the Seahawks did earlier on Tuesday.

The Seattle Seahawks agreed to deals with Tarvaris Jackson and Matt Leinart following the news that free-agent quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will not return to Seattle this season, multiple sources told ESPN.

Jackson, Leinart and Charlie Whitehurst would compete in an open competition for the starting quarterback job this coming season. The quarterback log-jam came about when the Seahawks chose not to pursue incumbent Matt Hasselbeck, instead opting to let him go in free agency. Hasselbeck is still mulling options that include the Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins.

With the latest move, the Seahawks should, finally, be done dealing with the quarterback position. With a slim market in free agency and quarterbacks commanding a hefty price via trade, Seattle has, apparently, chosen to save money and target a quarterback of the future following the 2011 season.
